Polymer compounds are used in power cables. Power cables are actually a bunch of one or more electrical conductors, usually held together with a close-fitting cover. This bunch of electrical conductors is used for transmission of electrical power. Power cables can be installed as permanent wiring within buildings, buried in the ground, run overhead, or exposed. Usually, all electrical cable are flexible. These power cables are designed As per the customer requirements, such as the voltage to be carried, maximum operating temperature, etc. Depending on the voltage to be transmitted, power cables are categorized into Ultra High Voltage (UHV) Power Cables, Extra High Voltage (EHV) Power Cable, High Voltage (HV) Power Cable, Low Voltage (LV) Power Cable and Aerial Bunched Power Cable.

Power cables are cheap, durable and widely available. Power Cables consist of three major components: conductors, insulation, protective jacket. The makeup of individual cables varies according to application. The construction and material are determined by three main factors:

1. Working voltage, determining the thickness of the insulation;
2. Current-carrying capacity, determining the cross-sectional size of the conductors
3. Environmental conditions such as temperature, water, chemical or sunlight exposure, and mechanical impact, determining the form and composition of the outer cable jacket.
